Basic Life Support (BLS) — Canadian Red Cross Professional-Level Resuscitation Training When cardiac arrest happens, seconds matter. Athelas First Aid’s Canadian Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) course provides professional responders with the knowledge and hands-on skills required to respond effectively to life-threatening emergencies. The course focuses on high-quality CPR, AED use, airway management, rapid assessment, and team-based resuscitation. What You’ll Learn Participants will learn and practise how to: * Perform a rapid primary assessment * Recognize cardiac arrest and other life-threatening emergencies * Perform high-quality CPR * Safely and effectively use an AED * Provide assisted ventilations * Manage choking and airway obstruction * Apply infection-prevention practices * Work effectively as part of a resuscitation team * Communicate and coordinate during a cardiac arrest * Apply BLS principles in special situations Who Should Take BLS? This course is intended for healthcare professionals and other individuals with a professional duty to respond, including: * Nurses and healthcare professionals * Physicians and medical professionals * Paramedics and pre-hospital care providers * Firefighters and professional emergency responders * Lifeguards and ski patrol * Rescue personnel * Other professionals requiring BLS certification Course Details Duration: Approximately 4 hours Prerequisites: None Certification: Canadian Red Cross BLS certification, valid for 1 year Evaluation: Practical skills evaluation and written knowledge evaluation Written passing grade: 75% Participants must attend and participate in the full course and successfully demonstrate the required skills. Cancellation Policy
Cancellations, Transfers & Refunds Cancellation Policy: Participants may cancel up to 5 business days prior to course start for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 5 days in advance are non-refundable but may be eligible for transfer. Athelas First Aid reserves the right to cancel or reschedule courses with low enrollment (less than 5 participants), with full refund or transfer options offered. Transfer Policy: Participants may reschedule once, free of charge, if requested at least 48 hours before course start Additional changes incur a $15 admin fee. No-Show Policy: No-shows forfeit registration unless valid documentation (e.g., medical reason) is provided. Exceptions handled case-by-case by the Training Director.
