Service Description

Basic First Aid, CPR-C & AED Emergencies don’t wait for someone with a first aid certificate to show up. They happen at work, at home, on the road, at the rink, on the playing field—and sometimes right beside you. The Canadian Red Cross Basic First Aid, CPR-C & AED course gives you the essential skills to recognize an emergency, provide immediate care and help someone until professional medical assistance arrives. The Canadian Red Cross Basic/Emergency First Aid & CPR-C curriculum includes: * The role of the Canadian Red Cross * How to prepare yourself to respond safely to an emergency * Assessing the situation and identifying hazards * Personal safety and appropriate precautions * Understanding the emergency medical services system * When and how to activate EMS * Working with professional responders * The Red Cross approach to responding to emergencies * Checking the scene and casualty * Calling for appropriate emergency assistance * Providing appropriate care until help arrives * Recognizing airway emergencies * Responding to choking * Appropriate care for airway obstruction * Recognizing breathing and circulation emergencies * Recognizing cardiovascular emergencies * Appropriate first aid responses * Recognizing cardiac arrest * Performing CPR * Using an AED * CPR and AED for adults * CPR and AED for children * CPR and AED for babies/infants * Responding to respiratory and cardiac arrest * Recognizing and managing wounds * Providing appropriate first aid for bleeding and other wound-related emergencies The CPR-C component also includes the Level C content for child and baby choking and CPR/AED, in addition to the adult CPR/AED content. The course also includes any additional content required by the applicable provincial or federal authority having jurisdiction. There are no prerequisites for this course. Successful participants receive a 3-year Canadian Red Cross Basic First Aid and CPR-C/AED certification. To successfully complete the course, participants must: * Attend and participate in 100% of the course * Successfully demonstrate the required skills and critical steps * Achieve a minimum 75% on the written knowledge evaluation Course Duration For Basic First Aid & CPR-C, the Canadian Red Cross currently lists: Blended learning: 4 hours in class + approximately 4 hours online Online learning time can vary depending on the learner.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations, Transfers & Refunds Cancellation Policy: Participants may cancel up to 5 business days prior to course start for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 5 days in advance are non-refundable but may be eligible for transfer. Athelas First Aid reserves the right to cancel or reschedule courses with low enrollment (less than 5 participants), with full refund or transfer options offered. Transfer Policy: Participants may reschedule once, free of charge, if requested at least 48 hours before course start Additional changes incur a $15 admin fee. No-Show Policy: No-shows forfeit registration unless valid documentation (e.g., medical reason) is provided. Exceptions handled case-by-case by the Training Director.
